Montpelier Player Seriously Injured

The Burlington Free Press is reporting that Montpelier High School football player Dylan Mercadante was seriously injured in Friday night's game against Mt. St. Joseph Academy.

Writer Matt Sukoski is reporting that Mercandante is recovering after suffering a burst blood vessel in his neck during the game.

Essex's Joey Picard tossed a school-record eight touchdown passes Saturday to lead the Hornets to a 51-19 win over Mount Mansfield Saturday.

Picard, who was making his first start of the season, threw for 303 yards. Essex is now 1-3, while Mount Mansfield falls to 0-4.

Welcome to our new look for the 2010 Vermont high school football season!

With the first day of practice beginning August 16th, I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers, who have made this blog successful over the past three years. I have bigger-and-better things planned this year with more original content.

Also, don't forget to check-out High School Football America for great high school football stories from around the country. If you have story ideas that I should know about, please feel free to email me.

Vermont Principals' Association Approves New Co-Op Football Team

The Mount Abraham High School football team is picking-up some re-enforcements.

The Vermont Principals' Association has approved a cooperative high school football team with students from Mount Abraham and Vergennes. According to the Burlington Free Press reports that the team will continue to by known as Mount Abraham and will play in Division III in 2010.

Essex Claims Vermont's Division I High School Football Title

Essex captured Vermont's Division 1 championship with a 48-14 victory over Rutland. The Burlington Free Press reports that Essex was led by quarterback Max Librizzi, who completed all but five of his 29 passes for 386 yards and three scores.

Cochester captured its first Vermont high school football championship since 1998 with a 22-14 win over Champlain Valley Saturday. The Burlington Free Press reports that the Lakers had to comeback from its first halftime deficit of the season.

Windsor Loses Bridesmaid Title and Captures Vermont Division III High School Football Championship

After two straight losses in the Vermont Division III championship game, Windsor finally got over the hump Saturday beating Springfield 19-8. The Burlington Free Press reports that the win avenged last season's 52-28 championship loss to Springfield.

Vermont's regular season closed-out Saturday. While no playoff spot was on the line, Vermont's oldest high school football rivalry was renewed. Lyndon (2-7) beat St. Johnsbury (3-6) 14-0 in the 105th game between the two. St. Johnsbury still leads the series 58-41-6.

Winooski improved to 3-0 Friday night with a 52-31 win over Mill River. The Burlington Free Press reports that the Spartans rushed for over 500 yards in the win with brother Gary and Geoffery Grant accounting for 376 of those yards and six touchdowns...three apiece.

Hartford Defends Vermont Division I Championship

It had been eight years since a Vermont high school football team went undefeated and won the state's Division I championship...that streak ended Saturday afternoon when Hartford beat Rutland (8-3) 26-14 to win the schools second straight state title. The win also extended Hartford's win streak to 18-game. Saturday's game was a rematch of the 2007 state championship game that was won by the Hurricanes (10-0) in overtime. Rutland was looking for its eighth high school football championship in the last 15-years.

Springfield Wins Vermont Division III Championship

The Springfield won it first Vermont high school football championship since 1948 on Saturday. The Cosmos beat Windsor 52-28 to win the Division III championship and complete a perfect 11-0 season. Windsor finishes runner-up for the second straight season. To read a game story, click here.

Spaulding Defends Vermont Division II High School Football Championship

Spaulding defended its Vermont Division II high school football championship Friday night beating Mount Mansfield 42-20. For Mount Mansfield it was disappointment again, as the Cougars lost their third straight championship game. However, don't feel too bad for MMU, because it's been to three state title games in just five years of varsity competition.

Otter Valley won last year's Division IV Vermont High School Football Championship on a Kyle Pinkham field goal with 21 seconds left, but the enthusiam hasn't left the community, nor has quarterback Corey Robinson, who's looking to improve on his 28 touchdown passes last year.
